Michael Ladha joined the BDC Board of Directors in January 2024.
Mr. Ladha has extensive experience as a lawyer, executive and corporate director. He is currently Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, where he is responsible for all legal and governance aspects of the utility as well as supply chain and procurement matters. NL Hydro is at the forefront of the evolving energy sector in Canada and is working to decarbonize the economy of the province and enable participation in opportunities the clean energy transition provides. Mr. Ladha is a key advisor to NL Hydro and its stakeholders in this transition.
Mr. Ladha has served on boards of many non-for-profit organizations both nationally and provincially. Mr. Ladha is currently a Director of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association (operating as Lawyers Financial), an elected Bencher of the Law Society of NL, a member of the Executive Committee of the Institute of Corporate Directors NL Chapter, and is a judge for the Canadian Law Awards.
Mr. Ladha holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University, and designations from the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CIC.C). Mr. Ladha has been recognized for his contributions to the legal profession and business community as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Leaders, Canadian Lawyer’s top 25 most influential lawyers and was named King’s Counsel in 2022.
